Fall Masterworks Concert

Can you “handel” this concert? Help us continue to commemorate our 85th Season with appropriate celebratory music. This kick-off concert for our Masterworks season includes Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, Suite #1 and Haydn’s Queen Symphony (La Reine) #85. This season’s Artist-in-Residence, RSO harpist Kelsey Molinari, will also perform Handel’s Harp Concerto in B flat Major Op. 4, No. 6. alongside the Orchestra.

August Summer Pops

Join us for a fabulous evening of songs from familiar movies and theatrical performances. Although their genres range from fast and upbeat to slow and mellow, these selections will have you tapping your foot and singing along the whole night through. Favorites to be played include pieces from John Williams’ soundtrack highlights such as Harry Potter and ET, a variety of songs written for the stage and big screen by Rogers and much more! As part of our 85th Anniversary celebration, help us commemorate by recognizing past Board and Orchestra members during the “Stars of the Symphony”.

June Summer Pops

We enthusiastically kick off our 85th Season and 29th Pops Season with this not-to-be-missed concert. Proudly display your national pride with red, white and blue attire as we celebrate an evening of moving patriotic music including marches, salutes and military themed tunes. Selections include Williams’ Liberty Fanfare, Ward’s America the Beautiful, Ringwald’s Battle Hymn of the Republic and several Sousa-composed pieces. While the Orchestra performs these moving pieces, enjoy a montage of pictures of local veterans during their time of military service.

Honoring our Armed Forces Troops and Veterans. Any active duty or reserve member of the Armed Forces wearing their uniform or with an ID, will be admitted to the concert free.

Fall Masterworks Concert

You have seen Maestro Laurino conduct the Orchestra, but have you heard him perform? The talented duo of Maestro Laurino and Concertmaster Alexander Mandl will entertain you with Bach’s Double Violin Concerto. The Orchestra will also perform Dvorak’s Serenade for Strings as well as an arrangement of Polish composer Frederic Chopin’s works, sung by John Komasa. Special guest artist, violist Dominic Johnson, will perform Hindemith’s Trauermusik alongside the Orchestra. Dominic will also lead the pre-concert conversation beginning at 6:30 pm in the Theatre.

Highlights include Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita and Phantom of the Opera, as well as Strauss’ Overture to Die Fledermaus. The sounds of works by Gilbert and Sullivan, Offenbach and Lehar will also soar through Festival Hall. Back with us for the evening are Ami Bouterse and Greg Berg who will add special voices to the concert.

Get swept away to the old South in Barber’s lyric rhapsody, Knoxville Summer of 1915, with special guest artist, coloratura soprano Alicia Berneche. Nathan Wesselowski, tenor, and The Choral Arts Society will join Berneche in performing Handel’s Ode to St. Cecilia, whose title is a nod to the patron saint of musicians. Explore the musical voice of Julliard-trained composer Cristina Spinei in her 2010 composition for strings, Synched.

You asked us to bring back Sunday afternoon concerts and we have! The Symphony is proud to announce the addition of a new Masterworks Concert. Collaborating with Milwaukee’s Piano Arts, the Symphony is delighted to present our special guest, Sahun Hong, 2012 Piano Arts North American Competition winner. Hong will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto. Rounding out the concert is Haydn’s Symphony #7 in C, “Le Midi” and Faure’s Masques et bergamasques, op. 112.

Masterworks Concert

Music with a Spanish Accent

Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W Sixth Street, Racine

Each year the week-long Artist in Residence program highlights a musician who can teach, perform and entertain. From 3 to 93 year olds, classical guitarist Rene Izquierdo has done just that. Concluding his visit, the Cuban-born Izquierdo will play Rodrigo’s hauntingly beautiful Concierto de Aranjuez. Adding to the Spanish accent of the night is Albeniz’s Serenata Espagnola, Op. 181. Include Schubert’s Symphony #6 and it will be a concert to not miss!

Laurino goes Italian

Laurino goes Italian – That’s Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony. Composed in Italy when Mendelssohn was 23 years old, Symphony No. 4 is heralded as his best-loved symphonic work. The concert highlights 20th century Polish composer Lutoslawski’s Little Suite for Orchestra. The talented winner of the 2013 Young Artists Competition will also solo with the orchestra. Joining the orchestra will be high school students chosen for the annual RSO Youth String Invitational.
