2025 Young Artist Competition Winner
The Racine Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Young Artist Competition!
The first-place winner bassoonist Faith Weigand. She played Grand Concerto in F Major by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Faith is a senior at Shoreland Lutheran High School. Faith has been playing bassoon for three years and studies with Beth Giacobassi. She plays bassoon and contrabassoon in the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Senior Symphony and bassoon in the Bach Ensemble, and she has been a member of both for two years. In 2024, she placed 2nd in the Racine Symphony Young Artists’ Competition and was also a recipient of the UW-Madison Tuition Waiver Award. Faith will be playing her concerto with the Racine Symphony Orchestra at a concert in the summer of 2025. We are looking forward to having her as one of the featured guest artists!
This year the RSO had a tie for second place! Gabrielle Peck played Haydn’s Cello Concert in C Major and Lydia Morencey played Mozart’s Concerto for Oboe.
The staff and board members of the RSO want to thank all the participants for being part of this year’s Young Artist Competition. They also want to thank their donors for their continued support. The donors and participants make the Young Artist Competition, as well as the RSO’s other education programs, a successful part of the RSO’s mission to enrich, educate, and entertain.
